Decision of the Press Council

At its meeting on 6 March 2015, The Press Council of Ireland considered the appeal received from the complainant under Principle 1 (Truth and Accuracy) and Principle 7 (Court Reporting).

The Council accepted the complainant’s argument that her original complaint had referred to both the heading and to the letter that was published.  The council further decided that the Editor should have agreed to publish the alternative wording suggested for the correction, which included the words "for misconduct in his practice".  The council therefore decided to uphold the appeal.
